Cessna Citation CJ3 charter specifications and market context
- Aircraft class
- Light Jet
- Manufacturer
- Cessna Aircraft Company, now Textron Aviation
- Category hourly planning range
- $6,800–$9,900 per billable hour
- Years manufactured
- 2004–present for in-service CJ3, CJ3+ and certified CJ3 Gen2 aircraft; CJ3 Gen3 remained in certification testing
The Citation CJ3 family extends the Model 525 concept with a longer cabin, higher payload capability and regional range that places it near the upper end of many light-jet trip comparisons. Charter travelers should distinguish an original CJ3, CJ3+ and certified CJ3 Gen2 from the CJ3 Gen3 development program because flight decks, amenities and operating status differ across the series.
Why the Cessna Citation CJ3 remains a charter consideration
Cessna certified the CJ3 in the mid-2000s as the Model 525B, followed by the CJ3+ with Garmin G3000 avionics and the FAA-certified CJ3 Gen2 in 2025. The CJ3 Gen3 prototype completed its first flight in July 2026 and was still working toward certification on the review date.
So its Garmin Emergency Autoland package is development context rather than a feature to promise on a current charter aircraft.
Variant note. CJ3, CJ3+ and certified Gen2 references differ. CJ3 Gen3 remained in flight-test certification work as of 2026-08-28 and is not presented as current charter inventory.
Overview and production sources
Light Jet category-level whole-aircraft planning range; not a live offer or a model-specific quote. Pricing was reviewed August 29, 2026 and the current planning policy is effective through November 30, 2026. Only a current written proposal confirms the aircraft, direct carrier, inclusions, conditional charges and total trip price.
Inside the Cessna Citation CJ3
The CJ3-family reference cabin measures 15 feet 8 inches long, 4 feet 10 inches wide and 4 feet 9 inches high, with approximately 286 cubic feet of volume. Typical charter layouts use six pedestal seats, executive tables, a forward refreshment unit and an aft lavatory. The certified Gen2 adds options such as swivel seating, accent lighting, USB-C and wireless charging.
The published 65-cubic-foot baggage volume is a family reference. However, natural lighting, Wi-Fi, outlets, refreshment capacity and usable seat count remain tail-specific.
- Seat configuration
- Typically 6 executive seats; up to 8 reference passenger positions by layout
- Cabin volume
- Approximately 286 cu ft
- Cabin dimensions
- 15 ft 8 in long × 4 ft 10 in wide × 4 ft 9 in high
- Baggage capacity

Cessna Citation CJ3 range, cruise speed and flight deck
Textron publishes 2,040 nautical miles of maximum range and 416 KTAS maximum cruise for the certified CJ3 Gen2 under stated assumptions. Twin Williams FJ44-3A engines, a computer-sculpted straight-wing airfoil and Garmin G3000 avionics with autothrottles define that generation. Original CJ3 aircraft commonly retain Collins Pro Line 21. The proposed aircraft and direct carrier calculation therefore control equipment, payload, runway and nonstop feasibility.
- Range reference
- Up to 2,040 nm on the certified CJ3 Gen2 reference
- Textron CJ3 Gen2 maximum-range reference; original CJ3/CJ3+ missions and real payload, weather and reserves differ.
- Cruise speed reference
- Up to 416 KTAS on the certified CJ3 Gen2 reference
- Textron CJ3 Gen2 maximum-cruise reference; not trip-average groundspeed and not a universal older-tail figure.
- Engines and efficiency context
- Two Williams International FJ44-3A turbofans
- Fuel use depends on the installed engines, thrust, altitude, payload and cruise settings. An engine model alone does not predict trip fuel use.
- Avionics
- Collins Pro Line 21 on original CJ3 aircraft; Garmin G3000-family suites on later CJ3 variants
- Aerodynamic design
- Computer-sculpted straight-wing airfoil designed to preserve lift while reducing drag
Is the Cessna Citation CJ3 right for your charter?
A CJ3 can suit regional and selected longer domestic trips for a small party that values baggage capacity and efficient airport access over stand-up cabin height. Jet Partners can request CJ3-family or comparable proposals. However, the direct carrier confirms runway and nonstop feasibility and the written offer must identify the configuration, operator, firm price and terms.
Jet Partners compares trip-specific proposals as an air charter broker.
Confirm these details in writing
- Aircraft, cabin layout, passenger count and baggage fit.
- Named direct air carrier and available trip-specific safety information.
- Runway, payload, weather, routing and possible technical-stop limits.
- Total price, inclusions, conditional charges and cancellation terms.
The properly licensed direct air carrier identified in the proposal retains operational control and makes the final flight-operational decisions.
