Aircraft decision guide

Cessna Citation Ascend vs Praetor 600

Two current-production choices for different mission profiles: the Citation Ascend pairs a compact midsize cabin with a 1,940-nm four-passenger high-speed-cruise reference, while the Praetor 600 offers a wider six-foot cabin and a 4,018-nm four-passenger long-range-cruise reference. The published missions use different cruise and reserve assumptions.

Direct answer

The practical difference

Start with the cabin and itinerary rather than comparing the headline ranges as if they used equal conditions. Textron's Ascend figure uses four passengers, high-speed cruise, NBAA IFR reserves and a 100-nm alternate; Embraer's Praetor 600 figure uses four passengers, long-range cruise, NBAA IFR reserves and a 200-nm alternate. Ask the direct carrier to calculate the same trip for identified aircraft, then compare complete written proposals.

The differences that shape the trip

Published model references support initial planning. Variant, completion, payload, weather, reserves and route assumptions differ; confirm every figure for the proposed tail.

Typical charter planning cost

Compare the same payment basis

These current house ranges are per billed flight hour, with a two-hour billable minimum. They are cabin-class planning ranges, not fixed model rate cards, live offers, or whole-trip totals.

Cessna Citation Ascend

Wire, before taxes and fees

$7,750–$10,800 / billed flight hour

U.S. domestic wire + 7.5% FET

$8,331–$11,610

U.S. domestic card + 4%, then 7.5% FET

$8,665–$12,074

Praetor 600

Wire, before taxes and fees

$9,500–$13,000 / billed flight hour

U.S. domestic wire + 7.5% FET

$10,213–$13,975

U.S. domestic card + 4%, then 7.5% FET

$10,621–$14,534

How the math works

U.S. domestic examples add 7.5% Federal Excise Tax to the displayed hourly transportation range. Paying by card costs 4% more than paying by wire; the card example applies that adjustment before FET. Domestic segment tax and trip-specific positioning, airport, handling, catering, deicing and other charges are not included in these hourly examples.

Mission verdict

Which one for which mission?

Start with the Cessna Citation Ascend

Consider the Citation Ascend for regional and medium-distance missions when its compact 18-foot-6-inch cabin, 441-KTAS maximum cruise reference and aircraft positioning fit the trip. Confirm whether the proposed cabin has the standard flat floor or optional dropped aisle.

Start with the Praetor 600

Consider the Praetor 600 when a six-foot-high, 6-foot-10-inch-wide cabin or additional published mission reach matters. Confirm the actual seating layout, payload, baggage and route calculation for the proposed aircraft.

Charter arranger and carrier disclosure

Jet Partners acts as a charter services arranger under 14 CFR Part 295. Jet Partners is not a direct air carrier, does not operate aircraft, and does not exercise operational control. The properly licensed direct air carrier identified for the trip operates the flight and retains operational control. Aircraft, availability, itinerary, price, taxes, payment, fees, and terms are confirmed in the written proposal.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions

How do the Citation Ascend and Praetor 600 cabins compare?

Textron publishes an Ascend cabin 18 ft 6 in long and 5 ft 6 in wide, with 5 ft of height on the standard flat floor or 5 ft 8 in with the optional dropped aisle. Embraer publishes a Praetor 600 cabin 6 ft high and 6 ft 10 in wide. Seating and usable space depend on the approved layout of the proposed aircraft.

Can both aircraft carry 12 passengers?

Both manufacturers publish a maximum of 12 passenger positions, but that does not mean every charter aircraft has a 12-passenger layout or suitable payload for a particular route. Confirm the proposed tail's approved seating, baggage capacity and operating calculation.

Does the Praetor 600 always fly farther than the Citation Ascend?

No model-level figure guarantees a specific trip. The published 4,018-nm Praetor 600 reference uses four passengers at long-range cruise with NBAA IFR reserves and a 200-nm alternate. The Ascend's 1,940-nm reference uses four passengers at high-speed cruise with NBAA IFR reserves and a 100-nm alternate. The direct carrier must calculate the actual route, payload, winds and reserves.

Do the displayed hourly figures set the charter price?

No. The Citation Ascend uses the Midsize Jet planning range and the Praetor 600 uses the Super Midsize planning range. Aircraft positioning, itinerary, taxes, fees, availability and requested services determine the written proposal.
